A 1kg Pack of 1.6mm Weld Star HF600 Hard Facing TIG welding wire.  Specifically designed for hard facing and overlay of Carbon(C)-Manganese(Mn) based steels. Typical used on excavators within the mining industry, knives, cutting and cold working tools.

Weld Star HF600 hard facing TIG rods have excellent mechanical properties, especially toughness.  The weld deposit structure has an impressive hardness level of 54-60HRC (Hardness Rockwell C Scale).  HF600 also have good levels of absorption resistance to moderate levels of impact and high toughness. As a result of the Chromium / Silicon structure, HF600 TIG rods have excellent resistance to corrosion and wear.  Combined with good weld pool fluidity and increased resistance to hot cracking due to the Silicon content of the chemical composition.

Suitable for finishing by grinding only where the base has not been tempered. Used extensively in such industries as Mining, Construction, Oil and Gas, Agriculture, plus Manufacturing.  Particularly for applications including hardfacing excavator buckets and loader bucket edges in Mining.  Machinery wear plates in Agriculture e.g. bulldozer blades and ripper teeth. Additionally enhancing durability of equipment and tools used in heavy manufacturing processes.

What is the Hardness Rockwell C Scale?

Sometimes referred to as the Rockwell Scale it is a number assigned measurement system for testing levels of hardness in materials.  The term hardness refers to overall durability and abrasive resistance.  When we think of this scale we are measuring a metals ability to withstand the effects of abrasion, scratching and indentation.

The Hardness Rockwell C Scale (HRC) test itself involves a mechanical operation where a diamond tipped indentation tool is used against the test piece. Different levels of force applied measurements are carried out and the resulting numbers are run through a specific equation which determines a materials HRC assigned number.

HF350 vs HF600 What’s The Difference?

The HF350 wire is used in applications where there is a need for significant build-ups, then potentially finishing with a higher hardness weld deposit (e.g. HF600).  HF350 is recommended in surfacing applications for moderate wear resistance but good impact properties. This wire (HF350) can be machined or ground, in contrast, HF600 wire is for grinding only. Use HF600 wire for applications requiring good abrasion resistance (e.g. mixers, crushers and earth moving equipment), but moderate impact properties compared with HF350.
