A 5KG pack of Weld Star 1.2mm A32 TIG Rods (ER 80S-B2) for low alloy steel such as welding 0.9% Chromium (Cr) and 0.5% Molybdenum (Mo) steels.

Rods are copper coated and heat resistant, containing 1.25% Chromium(Cr), plus 1% Molybdenum (Mo).  The combination of these two chemical elements enhances the toughness and corrosion resistance. This results in effective protection against the effects of hydrogen and sulphur.

The use of manganese and silicon ensures optimum levels of deoxidisation and good weld puddle fluidity.  High levels of heat resistance up to recommended working temperatures of 550°C. Typical uses include applications for industrial machine tools, ocean/marine structures, heat exchangers, boilers, pressure vessels, petrochemical industry and chemical and ammonia synthesis process.  Suitable for all welding positions.

A32 rods provide excellent mechanical properties including tensile strength of 620MPa and yield strength of 510MPa.  As a result of the difference between these two figures, the ductile nature of the wire is increased.  This is exhibited by its ability to endure twisting, misshaping and deforming without affecting the integrity of the finished weld. Moreover, this wire has excellent elongation capabilities, with a breaking point of 24% increase to its original length.

What is the ER 80S-B2 Classification?

This is broken down into the following components: ‘ER’ is the abbreviation electrode or in this case filler wire. This is followed by the number 80 which represents the minimum tensile strength, in this case 80,000 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). The ‘S’ indicates the wire is solid.  This may sometimes be represented as ‘C’ which advises the welding wire form is a composite.  Finally, the ending letter/number combination (in this case B2) refers to the combination of Chromium (Cr) and Molybdenum (Mo) within the weld material.

As shown above Weld Star A32 (ER 80S-B2) is copper coated product suited for joining similar low alloy steels.
