A 5KG pack of Weld Star 1.6mm A30 TIG Welding Rods for low alloy steel . Copper coated and heat resisting designed specifically for welding low alloy creep resistant steels which require high tensile strength.

The addition of the chemical element Molybdenum (Mo-0.5%) enhances toughness at elevated temperatures. It also improves machinability and corrosion resistance. A30 filler wire produces a weld deposit that is highly resistant to cold cracking (sometimes referred to as hydrogen induced cracking or simply hydrogen cracking).  This is because hydrogen can become trapped in both the weld and the heat affected zone resulting in this form of cracking.

Recommended working temperature of up to 500°C. Typical uses include creep steels for construction steam boilers, pressure tanks, gas pipes, shipbuilding sector, petrochemical industry, heat exchangers, building of cranes and bridges. Weld Star A30 (ER 70S-A1) Low Alloy Steel TIG Wire establishes uniform copper bonding with a low total copper content of <0.25%.

Excellent mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 610MPa and yield strength of 520MPa.  As a result of the difference between these two figures, the ductile nature of the wire is increased.  This is exhibited by its ability to endure twisting, misshaping and deforming without affecting the integrity of the finished weld. The high level of impact strength ensures a good ability to withstand a sudden force without affecting the weld and base material.

What is creep resistance?

The term creep resistance refers to materials used in machines and facilities that are required to withstand high temperatures and high operating loads. Creep resistant materials must be able to withstand the effects of high temperature corrosion. Furthermore, the term Creep can sometimes be referred to as cold flow.  Creep management is used in fields and applications such as nuclear power plants, jet engines, refineries, and high capacity kilns.

 

What is the ER 70S-A1 Classification?

This is broken down into the following components: ‘ER’ is the abbreviation electrode or in this case filler wire. This is followed by the number 70 which represents the minimum tensile strength, in this case 70,000 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). The ‘S’ indicates the wire is solid.  This may sometimes be represented as ‘C’ which advises the welding wire form is a composite.  Finally, the ending letter/number combination (in this case A1 – Aluminium) refers to the amount of deoxidising agents added to the wire.
