Tecmen Air Fed PAPR System – Matt Black

The Tecmen PAPR Air-Fed system is a great value air-fed welding shield with a near perfect optical rating and variable airflow speeds. A fully adjustable welding helmet protects the eyes and the highly efficient blower unit filters fume to protect the user from breathing harmful particulates.  Kit comes with Tecmen helmet and airflow system with filters – complete and ready to use.

  • Auto darkening helmet with near perfect 1/1/1/2 optical classes
  • Suitable for low amp TIG welding, grinding, arc gouging as well as MMA welding
Auto Darkening Helmet

This helmet is a simplified version of an air fed welding and grinding helmet, with the two functions in one without the need of a bulky flip-up visor. The near-perfect optical rating, rated to 1/1/1/2, allows for a clear view of the workpiece and weld. Infinite control available over the sensitivity, between low and high, and adjustable shade, dark mode ranging from DIN 9 ~ 13 and light at DIN 3.5. Fully variable delay from 0.1 ~ 1.0 seconds. This helmet also has fully automatic On/Off functionality and is suitable for grinding too.

The helmet comes with a solar cell and replaceable battery – 2 x CR2450.

PAPR Blower Unit

Supplied with a P3 particulate filter and pre filters, the Tecmen blower provides a filter efficiency of ≥99.97%, preventing inhalation of welding fume as well as dusts and other particulates.

Comfortable to wear, these systems are supplied with a belt to support the blower unit as well as should harness straps to further provide comfort and reduce lower back strain.

An intelligent air supply, the Tecmen unit senses filter obstructions and will self adjust the flow rate to ensure the user gets optimal air flow at all times.  A handy display on the top of the blower unit shows battery level, filter status and air flow rate with a simple glance downwards.  In the event of a filter clogging, an audible alarm, flashing lights and a vibration will alert the welder it is time to change filters.

2 flow settings allows the user to set air supply to their liking.

Supplied with a standard lithium ion battery, the Tecmen V3 will provide 9 hours run time on the lower flow setting, perfect for most working shifts.  Heavy duty batteries are available, providing 15 hours run time.

The Tecmen V3 system, has an inward leakage rating of TH2.  See our article on protection factors for further information.

Why use an air fed welding helmet?

New evidence presented to the HSE regarding the correlations between all kinds of welding fumes and breathing related illnesses lead to changes in law back in February 2019. It is now a legal requirement for all professional workshops that use any kind of welding process to provide adequate breathing protection for their employees. This is to reduce the likelihood of serious or long term breathing related illnesses among your workforce, also improving quality of life, comfort and safety during working hours.

It’s a legal requirement for indoor welding environments to have fume extraction, either fitted into the weld-bay or on-torch, but it’s also required by law for companies to supply their employees with ways of dealing with residual fumes. These come in two main forms: 1 – Personal breathing protection, such as a respirator or filtered mask; or 2 – full air-fed helmets with a blower unit and face seal.

Respiratory masks (Standard: FFP3) are only effective when they can achieve a complete, airtight face-fit, which is not possible unless the user is clean shaven. A face-fit mask has to be face-fit tested for each user. For a more universally effective form of breathing protection, that’s where Air Fed Helmets come in. Air Fed Helmets are an effective and affordable breathing protection solution for any user.

TBWS Welding Supplies also deals in Personal Respiratory Protection and Fume Extraction Systems.
