Honeywell Primair PA800 Air fed Welding Helmet – Ultralight PAPR System

For protection against the many hazards welders face, Honeywell North have created the Primair PA800 PAPR system, an air fed welding helmet.  The PA800 Air fed system protects the user against welding fumes, sparks and arc light, and does so with exceptional comfort.

Honeywell Primair PA800 Helmet

At only 24oz (680g), this helmet is exceptionally light (rated by Honeywell as Ultralight), making it easier to use for long periods of time while reducing head and neck fatigue and injury. Easy to operate with an auto-darkening filter, this helmet is designed to work alongside the PA500 PAPR system for maximum comfort and coolness, so you can maintain productiveness. The Helmet is fitted at the top with a connector for the air hose to fit into, where air from the blower unit can provide clean and breathable gas to the mask.

The auto darkening filter in this helmet is able to deliver a shade level of 2.5 in light mode and between shade 8 and shade 12 in dark mode. A grinding mode is also available.

ADF Shade and grinding mode are controlled via an external dial on the side of the helmet. This ergonomic design is so intuitive and easy to use that it can even be operated while wearing gloves, enabling seamless switching from welding and grinding mode.

Useful for the fields of:

  • Electrode / Stick Welding (SMAW)
  • MIG / MAG
  • GMAW
  • Flux cored wire welding
  • TIG Welding
  • Grinding

Helmet Features:
  • Sensor angle slide adjustment – helps prevent unwanted auto darkening of the ADF
  • Outside protective grinding visor / shield, for protecting the ADF
  • Ultra Lightweight (680g)
  • Flexible, lightweight breathing tubes with 360′ swivel connector for complete freedom of movement
  • Shade 8 – 12 Auto darkening filter

Honeywell PA500 PAPR Blower Unit

The Honeywell PA500 PAPR Blower designed to be lightweight and easy to use. As a welder, you will spend a long time – sometimes all day – on your feet, and that discomfort is likely to be compounded by heavy equipment which can lead to all kinds of joint and muscle pains, effecting your long term health. Honeywell’s ultra-slim, ultra-light, ultra-comfortable blower was made with this in mind, and Honeywell’s aim was to make their system the lightest and least restrictive on the market. Mounted onto a belt with a removeable comfort pad between the user and the unit, this system is unbeatable for comfort.

Why use an air fed welding helmet?

New evidence presented to the HSE regarding the correlations between all kinds of welding fumes and breathing related illnesses lead to changes in law back in February 2019. It is now a legal requirement for all professional workshops that use any kind of welding process to provide adequate breathing protection for their employees. This is to reduce the likelihood of serious or long term breathing related illnesses among your workforce, also improving quality of life, comfort and safety during working hours.

It’s a legal requirement for indoor welding environments to have fume extraction, either fitted into the weld-bay or on-torch, but it’s also required by law for companies to supply their employees with ways of dealing with residual fumes. These come in two main forms: 1 – Personal breathing protection, such as a respirator or filtered mask; or 2 – full air-fed helmets with a blower unit and face seal.

Respiratory masks (Standard: FFP3) are only effective when they can achieve a complete, airtight face-fit, which is not possible unless the user is clean shaven. A face-fit mask has to be face-fit tested for each user. For a more universally effective form of breathing protection, that’s where Air Fed Helmets come in. Air Fed Helmets are an effective and affordable breathing protection solution for any user.

TBWS Welding Supplies also deals in Personal Respiratory Protection and Fume Extraction Systems.
