Description

GrabPak A18 SG2 Mild Steel TIG Welding Wire (1.2mm) 0.5kg

AWS A5.18 – ER 70S-6

A 0.5kg GrabPak of A18 SG2 Steel TIG welding rods (1.2mm).  Super handy, the grab packs are great for hobbyists needing smaller quantities of rods or for small maintenance jobs when TIG welding aluminium.  Perfect also for site work, these grab packs are supplied in a plastic re-useable tube to keep them dry and undamaged. Considered an industry standard for a wide variety of applications.

This copper coated mild steel filler wire has high levels of manganese and silicon which encourages stronger deoxidising capabilities. The key benefit is that there is less need for stringent cleaning procedures.

Furthermore, the increased amount of Silicon (Si) also promotes good levels of fluidity within the weld puddle. This results in a smoother bead appearance and a reduction in post weld grinding. Both Silicon (Si) and Manganese (Mn) play an important role in A18 SG2 filler rods by increasing mechanical properties such as strength, hardness and abrasion resistance, even achievable at sub zero temperatures as low as -40°C. Silicon (Si) itself also enhances resistance to hot cracking issues.

Applications typically include boilers, industrial machinery, bridges, shipbuilding, automotive, rail, structural and engineering fabrications.

Features & Benefits

  • Automotive Sector
  • Rail
What’s the difference between A15 and A18 TIG Welding Rods?

The main difference between these two types of mild steel TIG filler wire is that A15 is more ductile allowing for the capacity to bend and misshape without compromising the structural integrity of the weld.  However, the weld pool doesn’t flow easily.  In contrast, A18 welding wire will have greater fluidity within the weld puddle due to the increased levels of Silicon (Si).  Whereas A18 wire does not have the same levels of ductility as A15.
