The normal process of air compression concentrates the contaminants taken from the air, including water vapour. This process raises the dew point of the compressed air relative to free atmospheric air and leads to condensation within the pipes, when the air cools downstream of the compressor. Water within a compressed air system can cause a variety of operational problems, including freezing of outdoor lines, corrosion inside equipment and malfunctioning of pneumatic process control instruments etc.
